REGIONAL CONFERENCE ANNOUNCED
New Holstein, WI: The Wisconsin Historical Society has announced that
it's 2008 Northeast Region Convention will be held in New Holstein on
Saturday, July 26. The Society notified the New Holstein Historical Society
that it had been selected as the host organization for this meeting. One
of the key factors in the selection was the fact that the New Holstein group
has recently completed the $1.25 million dollar restoration of its Timm
House Historic Site.
The convention will be held in the New Holstein Community Center, Kiwanis
Park, 1725 Silver Moon Lane, beginning at 8am with registration and
refreshments. The program agenda includes presentations by Trent Margrif,
Director, Wisconsin Office, National Trust for Historic Preservation; by
Rick Berstein, Southern Representative, Wisconsin Historical Society; Terry
Thiessen, President, New Holstein Historical Society; and Andrea Wittwer,
Vice-President, Wisconsin Council for Local History. The topics that will
be covered during the day will include: collection management, working with
the National Trust, and the nuts and bolts of a successful restoration.
In addition, those in attendance will be touring the Timm House Historic
Site, the Pioneer Museum and taking a guided tour wagon ride, pulled by
antique tractors, through New Holstein's historical residential and business
areas. The Northeast Region comprises approximately 30 different local
historical societies. The day will conclude at 4:00pm. Anyone interested in
attending may request additional information from either the Wisconsin
Historical Society or the New Holstein Historical Society at 920-948-7748 or
