To Sylvia and Paul - You're right, I forgot about stretching the curtains - we stretched curtains that way when I was still at home in the 1950's. Had forgotten that. Since I was oldest, and by 8th grade 5' 9", and Mom only 5' 6", I always got the hand the curtains. And woe to me if I hadn't squeezed enough starch out of them and it dripped on the floor!

Also, they were not ironed. Washed, starched and put on curtain strechers!!!! Sylvia, Knox Creek Heritage Center

The 1908 Sears catalog we have in our reference library shows lots of lace curtains, in white or cream color. Lambrequin lace valances are also shown. (You will have to look that one up!) They also were selling opaque shades at that time with decorative borders and fringe on the bottom. Olive green and white were the colors. Good luck. Carol

We are trying to find out what curtains or drapes in all rooms of a house would have looked like in 1908. Can anyone give me a resource to check for this?
