To create awareness of the historical museums and sites located within Waup
aca
County, a “Passport to History” program has recently been l
aunched. The local
historical societies of Clintonville, Iola, Marion, New London, Scandinavia
, and
Waupaca are involved in funding and promoting the program. In addition, the
Fremont and Rural organizations are assisting with promotion.
A 20 page “passport” has been printed which contains inform
ation on each
participating historical society and what it has to offer visitors. It
encourages not only tourists, but also those living in Waupaca County, to v
isit
these sites and learn more about our area heritage.
Upon visiting each of the historical sites, the passport holders will have
their
document stamped with a “visa” indicating they have been th
ere. As an incentive
for persons to visit all the sites, there will be a drawing at the end of t
he
season for a $100 U.S. Savings Bond, plus two 1-year memberships to the
Wisconsin Historical Society.
“Passports” are available at each of the historical sites i
n Waupaca County, and
also at selected antique shops, restaurants, and tourist information center
s.
