Gene-A-Rama comes to Madison!
The Wisconsin State Genealogical Society (WSGS) will be celebrating its 70t
h Anniversary at the 2009 Gene-A-Rama Conference at the Marriott Madison We
st in Middleton on Friday and Saturday, April 3rd and 4th. The featured sp
eaker will be author, lecturer and professional genealogist, Christine Rose
, CG, CGL, FASG, who will be delivering the lectures, “Federal Land Recor
ds to Locate Ancestors,” “Using Little Known and Neglected Sources: A P
otpourri,” “Illustrating Your Family History,” “Addicted to Courtho
uses!” and “Genealogical Proof Standard: Building a Solid Case.” Als
o featured will be James Hansen, FASG, of the Wisconsin Historical Society
speaking on frontier genealogy and newspaper resources, Virginia Nichols pr
esenting a workshop on applying for WSGS Pioneer and Century Family Certifi
cates, David McDonald, CG, on Wisconsin settlement history and resources, a
nd Nancy Emmert, CG, and George Findlen, CG, providing more of their geneal
ogical skill-building workshops. Also on hand will be vendors of genealog
ical and historical materials and services from whom you’ll be able to pu

ncestors? The Wisconsin Historical Society and the University of Wisconsin
-Whitewater Area Research Center invite you to a workshop on these topics,
Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Area Research Center, Andersen Library, UW-
Whitewater. Lori Bessler, WHS Reference Librarian, will be the speaker for
land research and Ancestry. Karen Weston, the ARC Curator, will talk abou
t finding female ancestors. The workshop will run 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and
the Area Research Center will be open for research 1-5 pm. The cost is $15

The Wisconsin Historical Society Library Archives along with the LCOOCC Lib
