Yes - the Wisconsin Historical Society does administer the official state m arkers program, but the highway signs indicating the location of a museum o r marker are not part of the marker program. As Kelly indicated, you should
contact the highway department for the appropriate contact information.

I would talk first with your county highway department. They usually have a ll of the required forms or would have the contact for the state office whe re you would have to apply for such a sign. If I remember correctly, the hi storical marker and historical museum programs are a special program throug h the state, but they may let the county administer it.

Can anyone tell me how it is possible to obtain the brown state highway sig ns that carry messages such as "historical marker 1/2 miles ahead" or "hist orical museum "?

Our museum is located on a state highway and a sign like this would be exce llent, as it might keep folks from speeding past our location.

Thanks!
