The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently updated its rules regard
ing the treatment of lead paint. Under the EPA’s new Renovation, Repair,
and Painting rule, beginning April 22, 2010 contractors performing renovat
ion, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, c
hild care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and m
ust follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.
This week, the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s website, Preser

line Lead Paint Guide<http://www.preservationnation.org/issues/lead-paint/>
to help clarify the new EPA rules for property-owners and preservationists
