At first glance, the casual observer might think that Joanne Curran's
work is all fun and games. But it's a lot more sophisticated than that.
Curran, who has a master's in Creative Studies and a doctorate in
Educational Psychology, leads energizing creative activities at ICE. Always
a popular part of the annual institute since its 2010 inception, Curran's
exercises call for ICE participants to play with balls, hoola hoops or just
playfully sprout ideas from their own imaginations. The idea is to have a
little fun, get the blood flowing and learn as you go.
"They are a nonverbal or physical expression of some of the concepts we
learn at ICE," Curran said.

part of team," Curran said. "In order to do teamwork, you have to create a
trusting environment so people feel comfortable to be innovative. Humor and
play are at the root of innovation and that's what we do with the energizing
activities."
The 2013 ICE application date is April 1. There is still time to apply.
