The historic Iola & Northern Depot, one of the last remaining Green Bay &
Northwestern Railroad depots, is in the process of being restored to its
original condition by the Iola Historical Society.
To help raise funds, the Society is hosting a spaghetti luncheon on
Saturday, April 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the historical complex
at 222 Depot Street in Iola. The meal includes spaghetti with meat sauce,
French bread, salad, cookies, and Italian gelato from the Millstone Of Iola
Mills. Coffee, water and milk will also be available.
Cost for the meal is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Additional
donations for the depot restoration are also appreciated.
In addition to the lunch, all the buildings at the historical society’s
complex will be open, except the depot itself, as it is in the process of
being renovated. The other buildings include a museum, firehouse,
schoolhouse, Helvetia town hall, and a 1930s-era log cabin, plus a caboose.
Docents will be at each building providing historical background on the
buildings and Iola area history. In addition, in the main museum building,
there will be a visual presentation of the vintage Scandinavia railroad
switchyard, prepared by local historian Doug Watson.
