Join us on Saturday, January 28 at the La Crosse Public Library to explore how primary sources can support inquiry in your geography and history lessons.

Jeff Woodward, Joe Pachal and Randall Colton are three master teachers from the Wisconsin Geographic Alliance who will lead you through several different activities using primary sources, and an introduction to three collections on the Library of Congress website: Photos and Prints, Maps, and Audio Recordings. You will work in small groups by grade level to share ideas and learn from colleagues, explore resources developed for teachers by the Library of Congress, and select age-appropriate primary sources that you could use with your students. Please bring a laptop or iPad that you are comfortable using.

Lunch is provided, as well as a stipend for attending the entire day. Minnesota teachers will receive CEUs and Wisconsin teachers will receive a letter of attendance. Regional workshop attendees will also get priority to attend a weeklong summer institute for elementary teachers in June 2017, digging deeper into the use of primary sources and culturally relevant pedagogy. Contact Kate Stower with questions.

Project partners on the IUM grant include: Minnesota Historical Society, Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education, Center for Social Studies Education, Wisconsin Historical Society, Wisconsin Geographic Alliance, and Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
