WAUKESHA CELEBRATES HISTORICPRESERVATION MONTHMAY 20 – MAY 21
, 2017 WITH FREEACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES Waukesha, WI – May has
beendesignated as Historic Preservation Month. In celebration of our
community’s rich history, Waukesha PreservationAlliance, along with
other partner organizations, is proud to host HistoricPreservation Days on
Saturday, May 20 – Sunday, May 21, 2017. This annual event b
rings local history tolife for participants of all ages. Themajority
of activities are FREE and open to the public. The East Broadway Histo
ric District andBuchner Park neighborhood will be highlighted this year.
Events on Saturday, May 20, include anopportunity to view and learn t
he history of Silurian Spring, historic walkingtours, an open house of Wauk
esha Fire Station Number One and information on thehistory of the fire depa
rtment. TheWaukesha County Historical Society and Museum will host Ch
ildren’s Games on theGreen, a behind the scenes tour and a presenta
tion on historic properties andtax credits. New Saturday events this y
ear include self-guidedtours at historic Prairie Home Cemetery. There
is also an opportunity for you to create an 8 x 10 painting ofSilurian Spri
ng while participating in a Waukesha Trivia night. Reservations and p
ayment are required forthis event, which will be held at Stroke of Genius.
On Sunday, open houses of historic homeswill be offered from 12-4 p.m
. The Waukesha Preservation Alliance will alsobe hosting a Hist
oric Photo Scavenger Hunt Contest, where participants willsearch through th
e historic sections of our city to find the small details ofbuildings. All
correct entries will be entered in a drawing for prizes donatedby local bus
