Observe. Ask. Try.
On Saturday, August 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the new Driftless Historium Museum & Research Center (100 S 2nd St, Mt Horeb, WI) Blue Mounds artist Dave Sears will demonstrate the art of woodturning.
A selection of Sears' work is on display in the Historium’s Kalscheur Family Foundation Community Education Room and is viewable during open hours (Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) through Friday, August 25.

In addition, this family-friendly drop-by event features a free children’s craft station that will encourage self expression by young artists under the supervision of Historical Society staff and volunteer educators. Inspired by Mr. Sears' experienced artistry, visitors can try their hand at whittling...soap. This is a great way to dabble in woodworking-without the splinters! :)
Sears is the third of four artists to be featured in a June to September series of once-monthly art demonstrations, displays and children's craft station. The series, “Art & Crafts” is a companion program designed to spotlight and enhance the Historium’s first special exhibit, “Creators, Collectors & Communities: Making Ethnic Identities through Objects.” This exhibition, open now through summer 2018, explores the artistic evolution of Mount Horeb’s ethnic identity-from cherished immigrant trunks passed down through the generations to Main Street’s quirky, Scandinavian-inspired wooden trolls. This exhibit and artist series is made possible in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The fourth and final installment of “Art & Crafts” will take place Saturday, Sept 23. Mount Horeb’s John Pahlas of Centerground Studio will demonstrate metal sculpture techniques. A display of Pahlas' work will be featured in the Historium Aug 28 through Sept 30, 2017.
