Thanks to all who helped with the logging stamp identification question. I
have some great leads on how to identify the mark!

Thank you,

Michelle Gobert

Was the log stamp found in Forest County? If not, get some history of where
it may have come from. Looks like it has been under water for awhile.

Look at old plat books for the name of a lumber company land holdings with the initials RMc (or whatever it is). I’d start looking for a McDonald.

Has anyone indexed old county Plat books? A place to start.

Forest History Association of Wisconsin may know of log mark books and reso urces.

Were log marks registered with the state?

Wisconsin Log Marks by Howard Peddle<https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=dp_byli ne_sr_book_1?ie=UTF8&text=Howard+Peddle&search-alias=books&field-auth or=Howard+Peddle&sort=relevancerank> (Author) – 1980 is a book out th ere somewhere.

Michigan has a great resource. I didn’t see the mark you are looking for while quickly scanning the contents online. The book has chapters on areas of Michigan – perhaps upper Michigan logging company is a possibility. https://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/MichiganLogMarks_384832_7.pdf

The Forest County Historical Society has a visitor interested in identifyin g and dating this lumber stamp. Any ideas on how we would go about this?
