Local History Colleagues:

This is a great opportunity to have foundational work in preservation done for your institution. No one in the WHS preservation department is an official CAPS assessor right now - and you will need to connect with one to submit a proposal for a CAPS assessment - but we are happy to help you navigate the process and help you apply as best as we can.

The Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (FAIC) is excited to announce that applications for the 2018 Collections Assessment for Preservation (CAP) program<http://www.conservation-us.org/cap> will open on November 1st 2017, with a deadline of February 1, 2018.

The CAP program is open to small and medium-sized museums, zoos, aquariums, arboreta, and botanical gardens in the United States. Participating institutions receive funding for a general conservation assessment from qualified collections and building assessors. The two assessors work collaboratively to provide institutions with prioritized recommendations for improved collections care. CAP is often a first step for small institutions that wish to improve the condition of their collections or develop a long-range preservation plan, and can serve as a fundraising tool for future collections projects. Additional information on the CAP process, eligibility, and applications are available at www.conservation-us.org/cap<http://www.conservation-us.org/cap>.

In anticipation of the application cycle, FAIC will host an informational webinar on October 24, 2017, at 2 p.m. EST. To register for the webinar, visit the Is CAP a Good Fit for My Institution? registration page<https://events-na6.adobeconnect.com/content/connect/c1/1377315405/en/events/event/shared/1389327373/event_registration.html?sco-id=1437455130&_charset_=utf-8>.

CAP is administered by FAIC under a cooperative agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
