STAR WARS AT THE MUSEUM!

Vintage Toy Exhibit Opens!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 27, 2018-New London-This holiday season, the New London Public Museum brings to you from a galaxy far, far away… “Star Wars: The Nostalgia Awakens”. With help from a generous grant by the Friends of the New London Public Museum, this traveling exhibit will be at the museum November 28 through January 26, 2019.

When Star Wars hit the movie theaters in 1977, it instantly became a box office smash. Kids wanted to bring the action home from the theater with them. They found their favorite heroes, villains, creatures and spaceships in miniature size on the toy shelves. From 1978 to 1985, Kenner Toys manufactured hundreds of action figures, vehicles, and playsets featured in the movies Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Today, these toys are as iconic as the movies themselves.

"The Nostalgia Awakens" is a traveling exhibit featuring EVERY action figure toy made by Kenner Toys from 1978-1985 based on the original three Star Wars movies. The display includes 100 unique action figures
(every figure ever made), five larger creatures, 19 vehicles, and 13 playsets. Visitors will recognize familiar faces, spaceships, and scenes from the beloved original trilogy. Every piece is original and 100% complete. No missing pieces; no reproductions.

The Star Wars toys on display are from the collection of Jarrod Roll, Star Wars enthusiast and museum curator from West Salem, Wisconsin. He and his brother, Kevin, owned many of the toys when they were children. As an adult, Jarrod collected the rest of the original toys.
Jarrod explains why: “The Star Wars movies and toys were some of the best things from my childhood. Collecting the toys as an adult allowed me to revisit those wonderful feelings.”

“The Nostalgia Awakens” exhibit is a fan-created enterprise and not endorsed by Lucasfilm Ltd., Disney, or Twentieth Century Fox and is intended for entertainment and educational purposes only. Star Wars, the Star Wars logo, all names and pictures of Star Wars characters, vehicles and any other related items are registered trademarks and/or copyrights of Lucasfilm Ltd., or their respective trademark and copyright holders.
