The Driftless Historium will host the 2nd annual Native Art Marketplace, an invitational art showcase, on Saturday, June 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This celebration of the art and culture of Wisconsinβs Native peoples is a continued partnership effort with Little Eagle Arts Foundation<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Flittleeagleartsfoundation.com%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7C6a8680a1a0fb4540e27908d6e2cc657c%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636945764832862349&sdata=7Ld%2Fo6lbzsTf415h8Hq482i0879YwQMHZJiLMgrPxtw%3D&reserved=0> of Wisconsin Dells.
Throughout the weekend, seven artists representing a range of Wisconsin tribal communities (including the Oneida and Ho-Chunk Nations and the Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican) will be stationed throughout the Historium. They will offer a range of traditional, modern and unique artistry and crafts for sale, from quill and beadwork and basketry to paintings and jewelry.
The Marketplace opens on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. with a traditional Ho-Chunk song and dance performance and educational commentary by the Wisconsin Dells Singers on Front Street next to the Driftless Historium. (This performance will move indoors, if weather dictates.)
As a fun and tasty addition to the weekend, the Ho-Chunk Madison Youth Council will offer for sale fry bread, Indian tacos and other indigenous treats. Find their booth on the Historium porch on Saturday from 11:00am to 2:30pm, with all proceeds benefitting the Council's Ho-Chunk youth-focused advocacy and healthy living initiatives.
All weekend long, the Historium will also unveil their 2019 site-exclusive"Flavor of the Year" ice cream, "Gramma's Apple Pie," via free one-scoop dishes (while supplies last).
