Flynn is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant and a prosecutor for Homeland

part of two separate worlds. This art show features a collection of figurat
ive paintings inspired by these experiences as a Mexican-American woman fro
m the borderlands.

"No Man’s Land" is a
contemplation on identity
tied to place, the things that
make up a home, the things
we take with us, and the things
we all share.
~ Eva Gabriella Flynn
Flynn hopes to convey a visual universal language to fill in the spaces whe
re these distinct worlds begin to collide.Much of the work is influenced by
the politics, landscape, and day-to-day normalities of life on the border.
She tries to describe a paradox; a psychological experience of being betwe
en two worlds, while also belonging to two worlds. In the paintings, figure
s are displaced in abstracted landscapes with nostalgic, domestic imagery.
She attempts to recreate the sense of building a home along with building a
n identity.
"No Man's Land" is part of the Driftless Historium’s 2019 theme, “Immig
rants of Wisconsin: Yesterday and Today.” With financial supported genero
usly provided by the Mount Horeb Community Foundation, the Mount Horeb Area
Historical Society has planned a year-long mix of speakers and exhibitions
about both early Wisconsin’s foreign-born settlers and current immigrati
on issues and experiences.
