The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society will host UW-Madison Professor of S
candinavian Studies, Dr. Claus Anderson on Thursday, September 17 at 6:30pm
for an online learning event.
2020 has been unsettling and sometimes overwhelming -but inspirational huma
n connections and glimmers of hope rise to the surface, sometimes when we l
east expect it. Can we train ourselves to shift our way of thinking and emb
race small contentments?
The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society is partnering with the UW-Madison
“Badger Talks” program to host Professor Claus Andersen on Thursday, Se
ptember 17 at 6:30pm for, “Hygge, Health and Happiness,” a virtual disc
ussion about the Danish notion of quiet contentment and how it relates to h
ealth.
Scandinavians consistently rank among the happiest people in the world. Why
is this? What can Mount Horeb, whose identity is yet rooted in Northern Eu
rope (trolls? lefse? rosemaling? anyone?), learn from this outlook on life?
Dr. Andersen is an Assistant Professor of Scandinavian Studies at the Unive
rsity of Wisconsin Madison. Andersen is a native Dane who came to Wisconsin
in August 2017. He has been teaching in the field of Scandinavian Studies
for more than fifteen years at academic centers including the University of
Minnesota, UCLA, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of H
elsinki in Finland. He scholastic focus is Scandinavian culture, history an
d literature.
Badger Talks is a UW-Madison outreach initiative, designed to engage Wiscon
sin residents on topics they care about and share the latest discoveries an
d research of UW’s world-class faculty, staff and graduate students.
