Depending on the date of the transaction, the rules differed.

The claim office should be first, because that would be the point of purchase or notification of making a claim. Depending on the law at the time, you might not technically own it for several years after, so there would not be anything to record with the County.

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with US land patent records versus county records? Which came 1st?? I am having some discrepancies with dates. Did the person who wanted to purchase the property go to the land patent office in Mineral Point 1st and then the transaction was recorded at the county level or vice versa?
