My position title is Business Manager. In 2018 we had an Executive
Director at 32 hours per week and we really could not afford that as an
organization. Our reserve funds were decreasing each year so we proposed
to cut the hours to 15 hours per week for 2019. Our Executive Director
resigned and I agreed to take the 15 hours per week position as business
manager for 1 year. Previously I had been Board President for 4 years
followed by being Board Treasurer.
The focus of the business manager is working with current and new sources
of revenue to balance our budget. Manage 2 part-time employees and
coordinate with volunteers and the board on operating our 8000 sq foot
building. For expenses, we believe we are at our minimum for operations
with being open to the public and regular hours (4 days and 30 hours per
week). There are other duties including maintaining exhibits and the
collection that relies more on help from volunteers and interns.
I'm looking forward to year 4 of my 1-year contract in 2022.
