The wood is finely finished but does not appear symmetrical enough to be a bow. In the first row of seated girls, second from right, you can see there is a "foot" on the end of the piece as if it is stood and held in position for its function. These were cherished items for the group, as there is a lace or fabric bow attached to each and this is a commemorative group photo.
