IT'S BACK! The Sauk County Historical Society is pleased to announce that
the historic homes tour is back and will feature five houses in *Baraboo on
Saturday, **June 23 from 10 am to 4 pm.* Since 1995 the Society has been
hosting this event every other summer to showcase unique historic homes in
Baraboo. After having to cancel the last scheduled tour in 2020 it has been
four years since there has been a historic homes tour, so you won’t
want to
miss this one! This year the tour will feature four homes that have never
been featured before and one that is always worth a visit. The four new
“old” homes on the tour range in age from the 1898 Halsted
House on Ash
Street, a gorgeous Queen Anne style residence that Al. Ringling admired so
much he had a copy of it built, to the 1942 Schaefer Home, a charming
Colonial Revival style home that has been beautifully enlarged. In between
are two homes that are close in age and proximity being neighbors on Fourth
Avenue. The 1910 Schultz house is a pattern-book design from the Radford
Architectural Company done in a unique English Arts and Crafts style and
right next door is the Craftsman style home of Herbert and Mary French
which was built in 1912. Mary was the daughter of Jacob and Martha Van
Orden whose home was across the street and is now the Sauk County
Historical Museum. It is believed that the same architect that designed the
Van Orden Mansion, Alfred Clas of Milwaukee, also designed the French Home.
The incomparable House of Seven Gables built in 1860 will also be a
highlight of this year’s tour. The home has graced the cover of the
popular
magazine *Old House Journal* and is also one of only 20 homes across the
state featured in a lavish book published by the Wisconsin Historical
Society Press called *Wisconsin’s Own: Twenty Remarkable Homes*. Th
e
interior has been restored to museum-quality perfection. Don’t miss
this
look inside five outstanding historic Baraboo homes. Tickets are available
