Dear Professor Pope:

I am the chair of Americans for Informed Democracy

&e=popekj@uwec.edu&url=http://www.aidemocracy.org/> , a non-partisan, non-profit organization that seeks to raise global awareness among the next generation of American and world leaders. I was in touch with you during the fall semester to let you know about major conferences our organization was hosting at Northwestern University and the University of Minnesota. Those conferences went wonderfully and I am writing now to let you and your students at UW-Eau Claire know about major conferences that our organization is hosting in Indianapolis, IN, and Green Bay, WI.

The conferences aim to open a dialogue among young leaders about civic engagement in the globalized world of the 21st Century. Thanks to the generous support of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, DarMac Foundation, and Hewlett Foundation, the conferences (including tuition and meals) are free for selected students.

If by chance you can share our call for applications for these conferences with your students at UW-Eau Claire , we would be most grateful. In addition, we also welcome any faculty or staff at UW-Eau Claire like yourself who might be interested in joining us for either of these events.

With many thanks,

Seth Green

Indianapolis Global Citizenship Conference

Students and young professionals wishing to make a difference in the world are invited to apply for a one-day conference on February 24, 2006, in Indianapolis called "The Global Citizenship Conference." The summit aims to open a dialogue among young leaders about civic engagement in the globalized world of the 21st century. Thanks to the generous support of Indiana University, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, DarMac Foundation, and Hewlett Foundation, the conference (including tuition and meals) is free for selected students.

The conference will offer students an exciting day of activities aimed at inspiring them to be responsible global citizens. In the morning, students will participate in an interactive, face-to-face international videoconference with peers halfway around the globe on the meaning of global citizenship and the impact of globalization on cultural identity. Over lunch, students will hear from Gillian Sorensen, the former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations. Then, in the afternoon, students will engage in workshops aimed at equipping them with the tools to effectively educate their peers about global issues. Throughout the daylong conference, students will also have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with a diverse group of young leaders, equipping them with the knowledge, s upport and structure to implement these ideas in their neck of the woods.

The conference will take place in Indianapolis. The conference is sponsored by Americans for Informed Democracy
