Iraqi-American Peace Activist, Sami Rasouli, to speak in Eau Claire on Tues
day, Nov. 24th at 7pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation
Sami Rasouli, an Iraqi-American with dual citizenship, who left Iraq in
the late 1970s, lived in the Twin Cities area for more than 17 years. In N
ovember 2004, nearly 30 years after leaving Iraq and following the 2003 inv
asion and occupation of his country of origin, Sami returned to Iraq to hel
p rebuild his country.
During this time, he founded and supported the development of the Muslim Pe
acemaker Teams, groups dedicated to the principles of nonviolence. He recen
tly brought a delegation of thirteen Iraqis from the city of Najaf to the c
ity of Minneapolis as a part of the Sister City Project.
Sami will speak about the situation on the ground in Iraq today; the U.S. p
ull-out from the cities; the return of the giant oil companies; political d
ivisions; the upcoming elections in January, 2010; and the prospects for U.
S. withdrawal and a substantive change in U.S policy toward Iraq. He will a
lso speak about the Muslim Peacemaker Teams in Iraq and the building of pea
ceful relationships between the people of Iraq and the people of the United
States through the Iraqi Art Project, the Sister City Project, Water for P
eace, and Letters for Peace
The event will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (421 S. F
arwell St.) in Eau Claire on Tuesday, Nov. 24th at 7pm.
