Oh Darned! Where Did I Put Uncle George? Organizing and Compiling Your Research

Doing genealogy requires the constant collecting, sifting and winnowing of minute pieces of information. Organizing this mountain of facts and documents will make it easier to plan research trips, find information when you need it and relate facts to each other in the proof of ancestry. This session will focus on systems designed to simplify your work as a genealogist. This session will start by laying a foundation using manual paper based systems and will apply this foundation to choosing genealogy software. The instructor will not make recommendations for specifics software packages.

Wisconsin Historical Society Collections & Services

The Wisconsin Historical Society has one of the top 5 genealogical collections in the country. There are over 4 million items in the Library Archives and thousands more at the Area Research Centers across the state. This session will show you how to locate those collections using the online catalogs, the Society website and the websites of the various ARC's. It will also highlight services provided by the staff at the Library Archives and Area Research Centers.

It's All Online! Or Is It?

There is so much online now for the genealogist! How do you determine what is factual and what is fluff? What is free or fee? This session will provide information about content on the web, organizing your online research, citing sources and how to keep up with all of the new information found on the Internet. Ancestry.com and many free websites will be highlighted.
