5th Year for History Alive!
The Washington County Historical Society is celebrating the 5th anniversary
of the popular Living History Encampment May 3, 2008 from 10:00 AM to
3:00PM. This unique event takes place at the Old Courthouse Museum located
at 320 S. 5th Avenue West Bend.
Presented by Woodland Productions, this free event represents the 18th
century fur trader industry. In those days Beaver pelts were the main
economic commodity, much as barrels of oil are today. For many years,
Wisconsin was at the center of fur trading, and included early settlers of
Washington County. This is an opportunity to visit the past and learn first
hand about early life in your community.
Woodland Productions is led by Randy Miller and based in Saukville, Wis.
Miller's troupe include a Flintknapper, primitive musician, Frontier women,
Blacksmith, Woodlands Trader, and a Plains Trader. Each "trader" will be
living on the Old Courthouse Museum grounds in lodges and teepees plying
their trade and explaining their place in history. The Old Courthouse
Museum and the Old Sheriff's Residence and Jail will also be open for tours.
