Norskedalen has a collection of about 20 original log buildings from the 1850’s thru 1890’s. They, of course, require quite a bit of upkeep and maintenance. Our board has been working to develop a policy that would guide the decision making in terms of repairs to the buildings. As usual, it comes down to balancing time, money, availability of materials and historical integrity. There are a range of opinions from the “get
‘er done” by whatever is most cost/time efficient to the ‘every nail must be authentic’. I would be interested in hearing from other organizations that have gone through or are going through similar discussions. I would also appreciate being pointed to resources for authentic log building preservation.

Thanks,

Diane
