The Montello Historic Preservation Society is proud to present the exhibit, Looking Back: The Photography of Dr. E.A. Bass, which opened last weekend and will continue Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through October 26. The exhibit, in historic Vaughn Hall, features 100 enlargements of Br. Bass's photographs. Bass was a physician and amateur photographer who practiced in Montello from 1887 - 1912. Subjects include informal family portraits and scenes of Montello, Marquette County and the Dells. There are views of Sauk Prairie and the Portage Canal. The enlargements were created from glass negatives in the collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society and the Marquette County Historical Society. The exhibit also includes original prints made by Dr. Bass in the 1890's. The photographs are displayed with period objects from our collection and there is also a display of vintage cameras. A Velox camera of the type used by Dr. Bass is featured.

The lecture series begins Saturday with James Draeger, architectural historian with the Wisconsin Historical Society presenting Eye Appeal: Learning about Architecture from the Photos of E. A. Bass. Lectures will be at 1 p.m. in Montello's Municipal Building, just a half block from Vaughn Hall.

Montello, home of waterfalls, lakes, rivers and the finest granite in the world, is hosting Father Marquette Days this weekend. There will be a parade and vintage car show, barbeque and other activities in City Park on Saturday. So take a break from watching the Olympics and visit Montello! Canoe and kayak rentals are also available in town.

Admission is free and everyone is invited. I have attached a poster which includes a schedule of lectures as well as our hours and location.
