Did I reply before? If not, you can reach me at Did I reply before? If not, you can reach me at smsteele@wisc.edu.
If I haven't done so, I will tell you about our system which is done in
Microsoft Word. I will be transferring it to Excell to make categorizing of
new photos easier.
We have over 4,000 photos and are diligently searching for more. We have
been adding between 500 and 1,000 a year. At first our collection focused
on photos from WW II and before. We keep expanding it.
Now that we are almost nine years into a new century I am suggesting that we
add photos to our regular collection up to the yea 2000 and keep newer
photos in another numbered collection. It is much easier to save them as
they are taken than to try to find a photo 50 years later.
...
If you find you need to go to a new system, do a print of your present
catagories and review them to see if you need to add other categories. In
addition to a content category you probably will want an estimated date
column so you can sort by time periods.
I double and sometimes multiple list those photos which include both
identifiable people and a subject such as horses, or wedding. Listing
individual names becomes important if you are willing to help those doing
geneology and if you want to publish the photo and need to id the people in
it..
