The 2009 National History Day in Wisconsin event season has begun! The Nort
hwestern Regional Event will take place on Wednesday, April 1 at UW-Eau Cla
ire. Students from across the area will come to UW-Eau Claire, eager to sha
re their work! Students have selected topics connected to this year's them
e, "The Individual in History," and completed their own historical research
and analysis. To share their ideas, they have created museum-style exhibit
s, interactive websites, papers, documentaries, and dramatic performances.
This event is the next step in the History Day competition cycle, and stude
nts will be competing to earn a spot at the Wisconsin State Event this spri
ng.
Volunteering at a History Day event is a rewarding experience. There is si
mply no other place where you can see so many young people excited about hi
story. If you have some research, history or education experience, we encou
rage you to participate as a judge. Judges work on panels to interview stud
ents, provide feedback on their work, and select finalists. The time commit
ment is approximately from 8:00 AM to about 1:00 PM on the day of the event
. If you are interested, please email Tom Sanders at SANDERTS@uwec.edu<mail
to:SANDERTS@uwec.edu> with the following information:
-Name
-Mailing Address
-A bit about your background (are you a student? Historian? Librarian? Hist
ory lover? This will help us to place people on panels for judging.)
We need just a few more volunteers and are hoping you will check your sched
ule to see if you are available and consider donating your time to this wor
thy cause!
