"The National Register of Historic Places: Eligibility, Advantages, and Common Misconceptions"

Lincoln may never have slept there and your home, building, or site may not be the oldest in your community, but it may possess enough distinctive significance to deem it worthy of preservation, and inclusion on the State and National Register of Historic Places.

On Saturday, May 9th at 10am, the Delavan Historical Society will present Daina Penkiunas, National Register Coordinator for the Wisconsin Historical Society to give a presentation on "The National Register of Historic Places: Eligibility, Advantages, and Common Misconceptions".

Ms. Penkiunas will explain about the process involved in getting a structure accepted to the State and National Registers and address the common misconceptions, eligibility, and possible tax advantages.

Penkinunas reads all applications before they are formally submitted, making comments and suggestions. Under her guidance, most applications listed on Wisconsin's State Register usually follow with a listing on the National Register.

The State Register designation provides access to certain benefits, including qualification for grants and for rehabilitation income tax credits; and it does not restrict private property owners in the use of their property.

The program will take place on Saturday, May 02, 2009,at 10:00am at the Delavan Community Centre, 826 E. Geneva St., Delavan. Coffee and rolls will be served. Admission is free of charge in honor of Historic Preservation Month.
