The Military trail also went from Portage to Fond du Lac. Jefferson
Davis traveled it. I live in Brandon 20 miles from Fond du Lac. We have
a marker marking where the trail went along Highway TC. There are still
portions of the road with the logs at this site. Twice in the last 10
years a group followed the route from Portage to Green Bay. I don't
know if they went any further north at that time. They had covered
wagons that some traveled in and some road horseback and others walked
the whole distance. Brandon was honored to be one of the towns that
they stayed in overnight. There was an organization that sponsored the
reenacting of the travel over the trail. Maybe the Historical Society at
Madison would have some history about the trail

Subject: Military trail
Hi
Does anyone have knowledge about the Military Trail during the Civil
War that went from Green Bay to Superior? The route was purported to
bypass more lakes than another route. The trail was made for Cavalry use
to protect the settlers from Indians.. Then there were no hostile
Indians. A local person related that he had read about it and it goes
thru my property in Price County. The ruts are still visible in places
on nearby land. Anyone have access to history books on this subject or
location of the trail from Price county to Superior?
