Agency House Awarded Preservation Library
Treasured artifacts held by the Historic Indian Agency House (HIAH) of Port
age, Wisconsin will be preserved for future generations with help from th
e IMLS Connecting to Collections Bookshelf, a comprehensive set of conser
vation books and online resources donated by the Institute of Library and M
useum Sciences (IMLS). HIAH was recently awarded this essential set of reso
urces based on an application describing the needs and plans for the care o
f its collections. The Bookshelf addresses such topics as the philosophy an
d ethics of collecting, collections management and planning, emergency
preparedness, and culturally specific conservation issues. Agency House D
irector Destinee Udelhoven (pictured below, right, with Anna Rusk, su
mmer intern and a few of the Bookshelf resources) expressed her excitement
over the grant award and stressed that “any local organizations or indivi
duals interested in better preserving their own collections are more than w
elcome to peruse and borrow from the collection.” Interested parties are
