Subject: Tracking and Rewarding Volunteer hours
From: Russell Hanson <riverroadrambler@gmail.com>

Dear Local Historians,

I followed with interest the listserve discussion on volunteer hour tracking. We at the Luck Area Historical Society and Museum would like to start tracking hours in 2010. To make this work, we want to get the volunteers to track their own hours and submit them to us.

To get volunteers to track their own hours, they should be rewarded in some way for the number of hours, a progressive award that makes them want to reach that goal; i.e.
     1-25 hours
     2-50
     50-100
>100

I am having trouble thinking of names for the groups. It should be something that is progressive too. I have seen awards named
"President's club", "Unsung Hero" or the money donation names like
"Patron."

Any suggestions for a set of names for historical society /museum volunteer hours? It probably should be something like the job classes in that you can see the progression (junior programmer, programmer, senior programmer, technical specialist I, II were classes in my computer programming world)., but it would be nice if it had a touch of history to the group names too!

I think we might use an annual banquet or meeting of some kind to give out the awards along with newspaper publicity--like our local hospital does for its volunteers.
