More than 100 organizations around the country have joined the Coalition fo
r Full Funding of the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF). The Coalition is a
diverse group of national, regional, state, and local organizations that b
elieve historic preservation is important. Every year $150 million in off-
shore oil lease revenue is deposited in the Historic Preservation Fund, but
the full amount has never been appropriated by Congress. In fact, the appr
opriation is usually less than one half of the amount available. Full, perm
anent funding of the HPF would make a dramatic, positive difference for loc
al preservation, reaching every community in the country.
The Historic Preservation Fund is the cornerstone of the Federal historic p
reservation program as it is administered in the states. Some of the progr
ams it supports in our state include historic preservation assistance provi
ded by the Wisconsin Historical Society, grants to local governments, histo
ric preservation tax credits, the National Register, and many other activit
ies.
Joining the Coalition for Full Funding does not constitute lobbying. It d
oes show your organization's support for full funding for the HPF.
