The Deke Slayton Memorial Space & Bicycle Museum is seeking an Executive Director.

 

The Museum, located in Sparta, Wisconsin, is a Progression of Transportation from the first bicycles, to exploring Monroe County's rich aviation history, and into outer space with Mercury 7, Astronaut Donald Kent "Deke" Slayton. Approximately 7000 people visit the Museum annually.

 

The Museum is looking for a professional, self-motivated, dependable, and creative individual who possesses an ability to exercise mature judgment, prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously, organize, and perform work independently. The successful candidate should also possess excellent communication skills and the ability to recruit/motivate volunteers.

 

Essential Duties:

* Leadership: Provide the organizational vision and leadership for direction, growth and development of the Museum
* Fundraising: Organize fundraising activities, develop earned-income opportunities, seek grant opportunities, cultivate potential donors
* Office Management: Day-to-day administration of the Museum affairs, including basic accounting of records, management of the annual operating budget, supervising staff/volunteers, and coordinating the maintenance of the Museum.
* Communications: Promote the Museum via print and electronic media. Provide tours to museum visitors.
* Marketing and Advocacy: Promote the Museum to its members, the community, potential donors, and the general public.
* Programs: Plan and implement educational programs for students, adults, and the general public.
* Collections: Oversee the preservation, cataloging and exhibition of the Museum's collection of artifacts. Seek new acquisitions.

 

Requirements:

* Experience in public administration, non-profit management, or public history

* A college degree or work experience in a related field

* Strong leadership skills and management experience

* An energetic and innovative mindset

* Staff and budget management experience

* Fundraising experience

* Excellent organizational, interpersonal, public speaking and writing skills

* A strong interest in working collaboratively

* Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, financial management, e-mail and internet
