2011 marks the 50th Anniversary of the incorporation of the New Holstein Hi storical Society. We will celebrate the occasion on Tuesday, January 18, 2 011, at The Altona Supper Club, Hwy 57, New Holstein. Tickets for the eveni ng are $20 for Society members and $25 for non-members. The fee includes a
plated sit-down dinner, beverage, and dessert. Also included is a chance at a door prize. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm, followed by a wonderful program presented by Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt. Jessica Michna (remember her as Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln), will recreate Mrs. Roosevelt for us as part of our celebration. Mrs. Roosevelt made her “debut” in 2005. After 13 yea rs as First Lady, Eleanor hoped to retire and perhaps write her memoirs. B y 1948 the world had changed dramatically and so had Mrs. Roosevelt. She s hares with her audience her tragedies and triumphs. Strengthened by person al tragedy, she emerged as a champion of civil rights, author and stateswom an. She is best summed up by President Harry Truman, who dubbed her “The
First Lady of the World.” This is a visit that you do not want to miss
.

Michael Stevens, State Preservation Officer, will also be attending the cel ebration to present the Society with the 2010 Historical Preservation Award
for the work done on the Timm House. This award is presented for the best
work in protecting a threatened historic property in Wisconsin. A review c ommittee evaluates all of the nominations that are received and selects the
one project that is the best. This is a great honor for the community to have another recognition of its efforts at historic preservation.

A variety of displays will be on exhibit and Life Members of the Society wi ll be recognized as part of the evening’s program. Seating is limited fo r this special event, so send in the below reservation as soon as possible
.
