Preservation Grant Deadline Approaching on June 1st!

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is now accepting applications for two matching grant programs available for projects in Wisconsin (listed
below). If you are interested in applying for one of our grants, now is t he time to contact the National Trust’s Wisconsin Field Office or the Mid west Office to discuss your potential project and obtain assistance with th e application process. We strongly encourage applicants to work with our of fice and submit drafts of their applications for review and comment in adva nce of the deadline.

Please note that these funds are for planning grants only - the costs assoc iated with actual “bricks and mortar” restoration of a structure would not be fundable. Applicants must be non-profit organizations or public age ncies to qualify for our grants programs. Please also be aware that applica nts for the Jeffris Heartland Fund are competing with a regional pool of ap plicants, while competition for the Jeffris Family Preservation Fund is lim ited to other projects within Wisconsin.

Funds may be used to obtain professional expertise in areas such as archit ecture, archeology, engineering, preservation planning, land-use planning, fund raising, organizational development and law as well as preservation ed ucation activities to educate the public. This fund is targeted toward proj ects in small Wisconsin towns with a population under 10,000. Many organiz ations have found that Preservation Funds provided the crucial boost to get

The fund makes grants in the range o f $5,000 to $50,000 for Historic Structure Reports and other advanced plann ing studies. Funds must be matched dollar-for-dollar with cash from sources
unrelated to the National Trust and the Jeffris Family Foundation. Establi shed 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations or government agencies in partnersh ip with a 501(c)(3) organization are eligible to apply. Applicants must be
able to demonstrate the viability of their project through the submittal o f early planning studies, and must be ready for the preparation of a Histor ic Structure Report, or other advanced planning studies, leading toward a c ommunity-centered capital fund drive. Projects in communities with more th an 150,000 in population are NOT eligible to apply. Priority will be given to projects located outside of metropolitan areas.
