Czeching Out Skalitzkys!
Recently, Dan and Amy Skalitzky, Waterloo, went to the Cech Republic in 200
9 ? to trace their Skalitzky heritage!! Dan's ancestors were from the Franz
Joseph and Anna Wagner Skalitzky line.
Many early settlers found their way to the Island Church area in Waterloo T
ownship. Some of these names are Blaska, Leschhinger, Haberman, Springer,
Veith, Binstok, Heideman, Skalitzki. Many left the Austri-Hungarian provinc
e of Bohemia early in 1844, (now part of Czechoslovaia) to find a new life,
new land and a new beginning. Come and find out how Dan and Amy used their
knowledge and "know-how' to explore the "Lanscroun" area (Czchoslovakia).
Dan and Amy will share their trip back in time, Sunday, August 7, one o'cl
ock, at the Waterloo Historical Museum on Polk and S. Monroe St. Parking o
n S. Monroe, elevator available at the new entrance/parking area.
Come and hear their story! History and heritage keep people believing in
the spirit of family. Refreshments will be served. Share your questions, a
nd knowledge of family genealogy!!
