2012 Meeting of the Vernacular Architecture Forum (VAF) Madison, Wisconsin June 6-10, 2012

With the theme "Nature + City: Vernacular Buildings & Landscapes of the Upp er Midwest," the annual meeting of the Vernacular Architecture Forum will b e based on Madison, Wisconsin – the site of the state Capitol and Wiscons in’s flagship University. The conference will kick off on Wednesday even ing, June 6th, with a keynote lecture by William Cronon, Frederick Jackson Turner and Vilas Research Professor of History, Geography, and Environmenta l Studies at the recently-restored Majestic Theater. The heart of the confe rence will take place on June 7 and 8 (Thursday and Friday) with two all-da y field tours. These tours will tell the story of southwestern and south-ce ntral Wisconsin—a region that has linked the rural hinterlands to the cit y of Madison as its center over the past 180 years. The focus on Saturday will be a day of papers and roundtables, capped off by a closing banquet at
 the University of Wisconsin’s Student Union.
