Tour of Johansen Archives Center in Blue Mounds June 10th In honor of the centennial of the village of Blue Mounds incorporation in 1912, the Blue Mounds Area Historical Society is partnering with the Gunnar Johansen Charitable Trust to host a one day reservation only tour of the Johansen Archives Center, located at 2965 Main Street in Blue Mounds. The Johansen Archives Center contains the papers, recordings,books, music, compositions and collections of the legendary pianist GUNNAR JOHANSEN. Danish-born Johansen(1906-1991) was appointed the very first Artist-in-Residence in Music at any institution in America and remained on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin from 1939 to his retirement in 1976. He and his wife Lorraine lived in Blue Mounds (just north of the State Park) from 1946 until their deaths. Internationally-renowned musician and composer, Johansen recorded more than 140 albums of piano music. On this tour you will see photographs, programs and other memento fromhis long career and hear selections played on one of his rare pianos by his long-time assistant (and Trustee of the Johansen Charitable Trust) Mr. James Colias. Tours are by reservation only and space is limited. Reservations must be recieved by June 5th.
