Hello Listserv colleagues.

I want to let you know about an upcoming workshop coming up THIS Tuesday that will empower you to design your exhibits using a computer program. I'm signed up for it because the software is free (basic version) and the training is so reasonably priced. Don't miss this opportunity to learn something so helpful in planning your next display! -- Jarrod Roll, Monroe County Local History Room, Sparta

"Introduction to SketchUp for Museums" Workshop

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Morning Session: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm OR Afternoon Session: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Cost: $50 WFM Member or $65 Non-WFM Member

Hosted by Beloit College Colonel Robert H Morse Library
(Lower Level) Library Learning Lab 731 College St Beloit, WI 53511

Description: SketchUp is an easy to use platform to create 3D renderings. Using Sketchup, museums can create professional looking, scaled renderings of exhibit concepts and final designs for improved communication between exhibit team members, administrators, boards, and potential donors. This hands-on workshop will introduce SketchUp's drawing tools and techniques for 3D rendering and demonstrate the software's presentation tools. Participants should bring measurements and photographs of one of their own exhibit spaces which they will turn into a SketchUp template.

Instructor: Dan Bartlett is the Curator of Exhibits and Education at the Logan Museum of Anthropology at Beloit College where he is also an instructor of museum studies teaching classes in museum education and informal learning, and exhibition design and development. In addition, Dan does freelance interpretive planning, and exhibit development and design work in the Wisconsin/Illinois state line area. Dan holds an MA in Public History and Museum Studies from UW-Milwaukee.
