Waukesha, WI– May has been designated as Historic Preservation M
onth. In celebration of our community’s richhistory, Waukesha
Preservation Alliance, along with other partnerorganizations, is proud to
host Historic Preservation Days on Saturday, May 21– Sunday, May 22
, and on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. According toMary Emery, Presi
dent of the Waukesha Preservation Alliance, “HistoricPreservation M
onth offers the ideal opportunity to celebrate Waukesha’s uniquepas
t through diverse activities that are FREE and designed to engageparticipan
ts of all ages,” she stated. The Springs Park/Arcadian Spring
neighborhood will be highlightedthis year. Events on Saturday, May 21
, includehistoric walking tours, an open house at Waukesha Fire Station Num
ber One andinformation on the history of the fire department, children
s games and anopportunity to view and hear the story of Silurian Spri
ng. On Sunday, May 22, open houses of historic propertieswill be offe
red from 12-4 p.m. On Wednesday, May 25, we will be celebrating
La Casa’s 50th Anniversary. A reception will be held at 5 p.
m. at CaféEsperanza – 410 Arcadian Avenue. Thiswill be f
ollowed by an informative presentation at 6:00 p.m. on the rich history of
Latinos in Waukesha. The Waukesha Preservation Alliance will also be h
osting a HistoricPhoto Scavenger Hunt Contest, where participants will sear
ch through thehistoric sections of our city to find the small details of bu
ildings. Allcorrect entries will be entered in a drawing for prizes donated
