Hi Denise,

I worked at an historic house museum in Virginia for many years where we were part of the Blue Star program. Although we were in an area where there were quite a few more visitors who this program applied to, as you said it was being part of the community and showing support for military families that really made the difference. And we always received positive feedback--many of the families didn't even know the program existed but when it came up in conversation that they were visiting a family member stationed there or that they had just moved to the area because of a transfer, we would tell them about the program and that they received free admission. We even would sometimes waive fees beyond the program dates to continue to show our gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the families.

Although the Dane County Historical Society does not have a museum, if we did I would strongly encourage our board to consider being part of the Blue Star program.

Thanks for bringing attention to this great program! Best, Helen
