On Saturday, July 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the new Driftless Historium Museum & Research Center (100 S Second St, Mt Horeb, WI), local artist Jane Rux will demonstrate the art of collage. Visitors can observe Jane’s natural knack for artistry and her disciplined adherence to traditional forms, palettes and processes, and will be encouraged to engage in discussion about her formal and informal training, expert mentors and inspirations.

In addition, this family-friendly drop-by event features a free children’s craft station that will encourage young artists to try their hand at translating the traditional elegance of rosemaling via a new twist of “scratch art” on old music CDs. Intrigued? Come try it out under the supervision of Historical Society staff and volunteer educators.
A selection of Rux's rosemaled artistry is on display in the Historium’s Kalscheur Family Foundation Community Education Room and viewable during open hours (Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) through Friday, July 21.
Rux is the second of four artists to be featured via a June to September series of once-monthly art demonstrations, displays and children's craft station. The series, “Art & Crafts” is a companion program designed to spotlight and enhance the Historium’s first special exhibit, “Creators, Collectors & Communities: Making Ethnic Identities through Objects.” This exhibition, open now through June 2018, explores the artistic evolution of Mount Horeb’s ethnic identity-from cherished immigrant trunks passed down through the generations to Main Street’s quirky, Scandinavian-inspired wooden trolls. This exhibit and artist series is made possible in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Installment three of “Art & Crafts” will take place Saturday, Aug 19. Mount Horeb’s Dave Sears will demonstrate the traditional art of woodturning. A display of Sears' work will be featured in the Historium July 22 through Aug 20, 2017.
