Subject: Preservation Racine 42nd annual Tour of Historic Places
Preservation Racine will hold it’s 42nd annual Tour of Historic Places Su
nday, September 24 from 11:30 to 5:30.
Preservation Racine’s 2017 Tour of Historic Places is featuring sites ass
ociated with Racine’s westward expansion of the 1930s. The majority of th
e sites included in this year’s tour focus on the greater Manree Park nei
ghborhood, which was originally platted on one of two original farms that w
ere situated along Washington Avenue. Of the 9 sites, 5 are within 2 blocks
of each other. Part of Manree Park was designated the Orchard Street Histo
ric District in 2016 by the Wisconsin Historical Society for its architectu
ral and historical significance. The greater neighborhood was developed bet
ween 1929 and the 1960s, as the Racine economy evolved from the dairy indus
try into industrialization, resulting in an expansion of the community’s
boundaries.
