Art & Craft #4 fea. Metal Artist John Pahlas

On Saturday, September 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the new Driftless Historium Museum & Research Center (100 S Second St), Mout Horeb artist John Pahlas of Center Ground Studios will demonstrate the art of mixed metal sculpture.

The young (and the young-at-heart!) will have the opportunity to craft their own "Canimal" (Can Animal) out of metal cans, with body parts made out of miscellaneous nuts, buts, screws, magnets, bottle caps and other brick-a-brack. Just like Mr. Pahlas, activity participants will use their ingenuity to bring metal to life!

Pahlas is the last of four artists to be featured via a 2017 June to September series of once-monthly art demonstrations, displays and children's craft station. The series, “Art & Crafts” is a companion program designed to spotlight and enhance the Historium’s first special exhibit, “Creators, Collectors & Communities: Making Ethnic Identities through Objects.” This exhibition, open now through June 2018, explores the artistic evolution of Mount Horeb’s ethnic identity-from cherished immigrant trunks passed down through the generations to Main Street’s quirky, Scandinavian-inspired wooden trolls. This exhibit and artist series is made possible in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
