Mount Horeb's Driftless Historium History Center & Gift Shop (100 S 2nd St)
celebrates the unveiling of its permanent exhibit, "Life and Change at the
Edge of the Driftless" with a weekend line-up of family-friendly events.
This multi-faceted exhibit, the centerpeice of the Mount Horeb Area Histori
cal Society's new 3-building, 12,000 square foot facility, shares the many
stories of the ecologically and geologically unique Driftless Area of South
western Dane County -from the last Ice Age to today - using original artif
acts and documents, as well as video, photo slideshow and interactive kiosk
elements.
A partnership with the Little Eagle Arts Foundation of Wisconsin Dells, wit
h support provided by the Ho-Chunk Nation, will add additional cultural dim
ension on Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., via demonstrations a
nd displays of traditional crafts and arts by Wisconsin tribal members, man
y of whom will also offer their art work for sale.
In addition, LEAF Curator Kendra Greendeer will present "First Nations Art
in Wisconsin" on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Then, Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m., t
he Driftless Historium will open its doors and debut the permanent exhibit,
with admission fees waived this first weekend only. At 10:00 a.m on Saturd
ay, the Wisconsin Dells Singers will perform a compliation of traditional H
o-Chunk song and dance, on Front Street next to the Historium. (Performance
will be move indoors, if weather dictates.)
Finally, the Driftless Historium 2018 Flavor of the Year Ice Cream - Yam Yu
m (sweet potato, pistachio, chai) - will all be debuted via $1.00 dishes, t
he 2nd year of a tasty partnership with the UW-Platteville Dairy Sciences D
epartment.
