With ancestry.com's rebuild of rootsweb finally complete for their free
websites after 6 months down, you again can have a free historical
society website there.
I have 3, two local historical Societies and a genealogical society.
It does require someone who knows a little about webpage building and
how to upload new files, but it is truly free.
In trying to do everything free, another useful tool is to create a
free google gmail account for your museum. With that you get 15gb (a
lot) of free google cloud drive. That is where you can share your
photos, newsletters, documents etc.
For example, I am putting our newsletters online by creating a folder in
the google drive, sharing it and then letting folks easily access the
newsletters. When we have a new one, we just upload it to the drive
(and give the file a meaningful name -- like History of Bone Lake
instead of March Newsletter), and it is available.
We also use a free facebook page to put our up-to-date notices,
events, links etc, on.
Yes folks, there is a free lunch!
