On Saturday, April 13 at 3:00pm, Mount Horeb’s Driftless Historium will host Karl Stewart, author, educator, former US Army Green Beret and 2nd generation combat veteran and PTSD survivor. Stewart will share his experiences with post-traumatic stress disorder as a personal journey translated into a literary theme.
Karl Stewart, a veteran of the United States Army’s elite Green Berets (1966-69) and the son of a WWII sailor who saw four years of naval combat in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, brings a unique and personal perspective to the subject. Beyond his own life experiences, Stewart incorporated PTSD into his last two award-winning novels, “The Seventh Cruise,” and “Up Harvey’s Creek.”

In addition, Stewart brings an affection for and familiarity with the area to his presentation. He lived in Mount Horeb as a youth, and his mother’s family lived in the Ridgeway vicinity for many years. Former long-time resident Donald Thousand even makes an appearance in Stewart’s latest book, “Up Harvey’s Creek,” in which he helps teach the novel’s young protagonist to cope with a family situation beyond his understanding.
Mr. Stewart’s books will be available for purchase and signing by the author immediately before and after the presentation.
This event is free and open to the public.
