What would you sacrifice for the hope of a better life?

Thursday, May 16 @ 6:30pm The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society hosts historian Pastor Glenn Borres on and the story of his ancestor family and their struggle to begin a new l ife in the United States.

It is a story that is heart-wrenching, eye-opening and fascinating -and par ticularly relevant to the history of Southwestern Dane County and Mount Hor eb, settled by, among other international populations, a large influx of No rwegian immigrants.

What does this mean for your family? Will you ever find "home" again?

Can America still be "the golden land of opportunity"?

(Right: Paster Glen Borreson) Holmen-based Glenn Borreson is a retired Lutheran pastor and graduate of Lu ther Collage (Decorah, IA) and Luther Seminary (St Paul, MN), and has serve d congregations in Decorah, South Wayne, Elroy, Mauston and Holmen, Wiscons in. After he retired, he begain researching his family history, and present ing programs on this Norwegian-American heritage. In 2013, his article,"Fro m Telemark to Taramack: Ski Jumping in Western Wisconsin," was published in
 the Wisconsin Magazine of History.

“Coffin Ships” is part of the Driftless Historium’s 2019 theme, “Im migrants of Wisconsin: Yesterday and Today.” With financial supported gen erously provided by the Mount Horeb Community Foundation, the Mount Horeb A rea Historical Society is excited to host a year-long series of exhibits an d programs based on the history and experiences of immigrants from across t he world who have lived, loved and lost in Wisconsin.

Immigrants and immigration might be a hot button issue—but it is nothing new.

A mix of speakers and exhibitions about both early Wisconsin’s foreign-bo rn settlers and immigrants of today will help audiences make connections an d see patterns and change over time.
